THE NUMBERS BEHIND THE LINES

Sources, rules and interpretation.

RaceGraphs is an independent Formula 1 analytical archive. It follows the world championship from 1950, including the Indianapolis 500 rounds that counted in 1950–1960 and the Formula Two championship regulations used in 1952–1953.

The snapshot

Results and standings derive from F1DB v2026.18.0, published on 26 October 2026, through the United States Grand Prix on 25 October. The 2027 calendar is separately sourced from the official published schedule. A data update is required before later race results appear.

Counted and scored points

The default graph uses published championship totals. Earlier seasons counted a selection of results, sometimes separately in each half of the season. Points scored show recorded race and Sprint awards; those awards may already incorporate revised results. The rules card explains the selected year.

Constructor points are separate. Until 1978 only the best eligible car contributed, and counting limits also applied. The optional constructor reconstruction is before constructor-specific decisions; its difference from the official total stays visible.

Comparison definitions

Race Head 2 Head compares final result order in eligible shared starts. Disqualifications, shared drives and multiple-entry ambiguity are excluded by default. Both-finished is a narrower filter. A classified retiree is not treated as a finisher when a retirement reason is recorded.

Qualifying classification, starting grid and official pole statistics are distinct. Time gaps use the latest phase available to both drivers, or a labelled published overall time. Weather, fuel, tyres, car differences and upgrades are not controlled. Exact shared entrants define teammate comparisons, preserving historical privateer distinctions.

Team identities

Constructor brands, dated identities and organisational lineages are separate. Aston Martin’s original 1959–1960 works effort is separate from the Jordan-derived modern organisation. In 2018 the replacement Force India entry started from zero constructor points; its drivers retained theirs. Different engines can have separate official classifications.

Family exploration totals are not official constructor totals. Some historic family relationships follow the publisher’s constructor chronology rather than independently verified corporate continuity. Colours are illustrative period chart colours, not certified branding specifications.

Known source conflicts

For Fangio in 1953, F1DB gives 28 points while the official results site gives 27.5. For Porsche constructors in 1960, F1DB gives one point while the official final table does not publish the matching positive row. The source records are retained and those seasons are flagged. Published tied-point ranks and missing ranks are preserved; missing positions are never changed to zero.

The source history can incorporate later rulings and exclusions. It is not a guarantee that every intermediate table matches the original race-day broadcast. Upcoming Las Vegas 2026 is displayed on its official local race date, 21 November; the source UTC date is retained in the data notes.

Scenarios

Hypothetical results are assumptions, not predictions. The calculator retains the starting published points and uses the stated race, Sprint and countback rules. A final qualifying countback may remain unresolved when future qualifying orders are unspecified. Historical templates keep recorded classifications and explicitly state their exclusions.
